Where's Your Money For The Irish Grand National

The Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse has been a minefield for punters and this year's renewal on Bank Holiday Monday (4.55) looks no exception.

Winning favourites are rare and you have to back to Omerta in 1991 to find the last outright market leader to oblige, and even Glebe Lad, the winner in 1999, was one of five co-favourites! And it's not getting any easier with five of the last seven winners priced at 20/1 or bigger (three at 33/1). To make matters worse, the ante post favourite Beautiful Sound is not a guaranteed runner even at this late stage and as second reserve will need a couple of the 28 declared runners to come out overnight. If he does get a run, he would have a great chance off his low weight and on ground he likes, but that's a big 'if'.

In his absence, the poisoned chalice of favouritism is likely to be passed to Prince Erik, who has always had plenty of ability - sixth in the Irish Derby and second in last season's Pertemps Final - but has not always looked a natural over fences, although he jumped well enough when winning a novice chase at Naas last time out. This is much tougher, though, and with his stamina for this 3m5f trip unproven, I'm inclined to look elsewhere for the winner.

British stables have won three of the last seven runnings and this year they account for four of the runners. The pick of them looks to be Nicky Henderson's Quantitativeeasing, who is third favourite in most lists. His latest effort when second in the the Centenary Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival came over 2m4f but his half-sister Asian Maze stayed really well and I don't it will be lack of stamina that beats him. With Tony McCoy to do the steering, he's not without a chance.

Willie Mullins has never won this race, which is somewhat surprising given he's won just about everything else in Ireland. This year he relies on three with Ruby Walsh opting to ride long-term absentee and 20/1 shot Shakervilz. Given he could have ridden the shorter-priced Some Target, who looked like he would benefit from stronger handling when a never-nearer fifth in the four miler at Cheltenham and is still unexposed over this sort of distance, that might be a tip in itself. Shakervilz has been off the track for 367 days but if anyone can get one ready after a break it's Mullins.

Another interesting runner is WHATUTHINK, who was a great third 12 months, just half a length behind this year's Grand National runner-up Oscar Time  This season hasn't gone to plan as he had to take three months off after a crashing fall in the Becher Chase in November but, as a result, he lines up here a fresh horse and his latest outing when third in a Grade 2 at Navan will have put him spot on. At 14/1 with bet365, who are offering five places instead of the usual four, he looks a rock solid each-way bet.

Given the races history, it would be foolish to discount anything at a bigger price and one who could outrun his odds is the novice HUGHIES GREY. His lack of experience over fences (just seven chase starts) would be a worry in most Nationals but not this one - none of the last 10 winners had raced more than 13 times over fences, with novices accounting for 12 wins since 1974. And he's already won one National when taking the Ulster version at Downpatrick early last month, and has since followed up in a Grade 2 at Navan.

Both of those races were on soft ground and anything faster than good would be an obvious concern for him. However, it's the Irish National and, with safe ground a requisite, I would be amazed if they haven't done a good job of the watering. His regular jockey Michael Darcy is suspended but big-race specialist Robbie Power (second last year on Oscar Time) is an excellent substitute. As for his price, I see Corals are going a standout 25/1 but I'd rather take bet365's 20/1 in the knowledge I'm getting an extra place.

Recommended Bets:

Whatuthink 1pt each-way @ 14/1 bet365 (1/4 odds, 1.2.3.4.5)
Hughies Grey 1pt each-way @ 20/1 bet365 (1/4 odds,1.2.3.4.5)

Champions League Results - Real Madrid 4 - 0 Tottenham (Crouch Sent Off Early On)

Posted by Gambling Systems Reviews

Tottenham endured an evening to forget in Madrid on Tuesday, with Real able to secure a 4-0 first-leg lead in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

The Primera Liga giants eased to a comprehensive success courtesy of a brace from former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, a spectacular effort from Angel Di Maria and a late volley from the prolific Cristiano Ronaldo.

Spurs arrived in the Spanish capital full of hope, but saw that optimism disperse inside the opening 15 minutes at Santiago Bernabeu.

Aaron Lennon was forced to withdraw from the action prior to kick-off, with illness ruling him out.

Then, inside five minutes, Tottenham found themselves behind as Adebayor was left all alone at a corner and forced a header through Luka Modric on the line.

Things got worse for Harry Redknapp's side 10 minutes later, as Peter Crouch, who was cautioned early on for a foul on Sergio Ramos, lunged into a tackle on Marcelo and was sent for an early bath.

Spurs held on manfully for the remainder of the first half, but saw Real double their lead on 57 minutes as Adebayor again rose highest in the box to power another header past Heurelho Gomes.

Argentine playmaker Di Maria then settled the game, and possibly the tie, on 72 minutes as he cut inside Benoit Assou-Ekotto and rifled the ball high into the top corner.

There was still time for more, though, and Ronaldo bagged his 38th goal of a remarkable season three minutes from time, beating Gomes at his near post.

Before kick-off, the 3,000-plus Tottenham fans filed into the Bernabeu hoping that they would witness another epic night in what has been a remarkable debut season in the competition.

They were lifted by good news from the treatment room about Gareth Bale and William Gallas, who were both passed fit despite injury worries.

Tottenham were dealt a blow before a ball had been kicked, though, when Lennon was replaced by Jermaine Jenas in the starting XI after falling ill in the warm-up.

The visitors came out of the blocks at a blistering pace, with Ronaldo dancing past the away defence before powering a fierce shot wide.

Just four minutes and one second had elapsed before Real opened the scoring.

Adebayor got in front of Jenas and slipped a header past Gomes. Modric was at the far post but he could not stop the ball squirming in and Adebayor had the opener against the bitter rivals of his former employers.

A late challenge from Crouch on Ramos deep in Real's half earned him a booking soon after.

Adebayor, buoyed by his early strike, constantly probed the Spurs back four, looking for a quick second while Mesut Ozil and Ronaldo looked dangerous.

Real's cause was helped when Crouch was given his marching orders 15 minutes in for a second booking after a late and needless challenge on Marcelo, again deep inside the hosts' half.

Rafael van der Vaart was pushed up front, but he looked isolated and frustrated, earning a booking for petulantly kicking the ball away as Real prepared to take a free-kick.

It looked like only a matter of time before Real doubled their advantage, as Tottenham came under intense pressure.

Ronaldo sneaked in behind the back four and fired a volley at Gomes and the brilliant Marcelo was giving Vedran Corluka a torrid time at right-back.

Bale was unleashed for the first time 28 minutes in, bursting down the left, but he had three markers on him instantly.

Spurs had a golden chance to draw level just before the half-hour when Bale found Van der Vaart in the box with a flat throw, but he was denied by a block from Ricardo Carvalho.

Another glimmer of hope came Spurs' way a minute later when Michael Dawson released Bale down the flank, but he drove into the side-netting.

Spurs started to look more comfortable on the ball, but Real still looked far more dangerous.

Marcelo fizzed a cross to the back post which Ramos headed just out of Adebayor's reach at the back post.

Modric threaded Bale down the left once more and he looked to have beaten Pepe, but the Portuguese player slid in, clipping the Welshman's feet and earning a booking.

Real were adamant they should have had a penalty five minutes before the break when Dawson charged down a volley with his arms raised, but the referee waved play on.

Redknapp injected some pace into his attack by replacing Van der Vaart with Jermain Defoe at half-time. The striker looked lively, but Real's ascendancy was shown when Adebayor grabbed his second after angling a header past Gomes from Marcelo's cross to make it 2-0.

Only a brilliant tip-over from Gomes prevented Adebayor from netting his third, as the hosts laid siege to the away goal.

Gomes was made to pay for punching at a cross when the ball found its way to Di Maria and he unleashed a beautiful 20-yard curler past the Brazilian for the hosts' third after 72 minutes.

Defoe saw yellow for a high foot on Ramos before Adebayor received a standing ovation when he was replaced by Gonzalo Higuain with 15 minutes left.

Real's strength in depth was shown minutes later when £56million forward Kaka came on for Di Maria towards the end while Corluka limped off to be replaced by Sebastien Bassong.

Mourinho barked orders to his players, urging them to find a fourth and Ramos came close to obliging with a drive that whistled just wide.

The killer blow came three minutes from the end, when Ronaldo got the goal his performance deserved, rifling a 20-yard volley past Gomes from Kaka's cross.

Barcelona 3 - 1 Arsenal ( And Red For Robin)

If You Like Our Posts Dont Forget To Like And Share Our Articles - Gambling Systems Reviews.com

Lionel Messi returned to haunt Arsenal on Tuesday as a 3-1 win for Barcelona took them into the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, with the Spaniards prevailing 4-3 on aggregate.

The mercurial Argentine bagged two goals, to add to the four he scored against the Gunners in last season's competition, while Xavi also got in on the act at Camp Nou.

An own goal from Sergio Busquets had given Arsenal hope early in the second half, but they were second best throughout and saw their dream die the moment Robin van Persie was shown a second yellow card.

The Gunners found themselves pegged back from the start, unable to find their own passing game as Barca slipped seamlessly into their stride.

Arsene Wenger's men were then dealt a blow on 19 minutes as Wojciech Szczesny was forced off with a finger injury.

The one-way traffic continued throughout the opening 45 minutes, with Abou Diaby fortunate to get away with a trip on Messi on the edge of the box and Adriano crashing a cross-shot against the post.

A goal was coming and it duly arrived in first-half stoppage-time as Messi, who grew into the game, was freed by Andres Iniesta and expertly lifted the ball over Manuel Almunia before volleying home.

There only looked like being one winner from there, but Arsenal were handed a lifeline on 53 minutes when Busquets inadvertently nodded a Samir Nasri corner into his own net.

Wenger's men shot themselves in the foot, though, just three minutes later as Van Persie, who had picked up a soft caution in the first half, was controversially dismissed for playing on after the referee had blown his whistle.

It took Barcelona until 69 minutes to edge themselves back in front against the 10 men, with Xavi the right man in the right place as he sprung forward to force the ball past Almunia.

Messi then wrapped things up from the penalty spot two minutes later after Pedro had been felled by Laurent Koscielny.

Passionate

As expected, Barcelona went on the offensive from kick-off, cheered on by a passionate 95,000-strong crowd in Camp Nou.

Koscielny made an important early block on Pedro and when the visitors did get possession, they were greeted by a cacophony of deafening whistles.

Koscielny and Jack Wilshere combined to deny Messi after, in a sign of things to come, Arsenal again gave away possession far too cheaply.

The Gunners were forced into a change on 19 minutes when goalkeeper Szczesny had to be replaced by Almunia after injuring his left hand making a routine save from Daniel Alves' long-range free-kick.

Barcelona continued to press Arsenal back, with Johan Djourou producing a superb saving tackle to deny Xavi with Pedro drilling the loose ball over the crossbar.

The hosts then almost fluked an opening goal on 35 minutes when a curled cross from left-back Adriano struck the outside of the near post.

Tempers boiled over when Wilshere went to ground as he stretched for a loose ball at the edge of the Barcelona penalty area, the home players claiming a dive which led to Van Persie and former Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano squaring up before calm was eventually restored.

Van Persie had not calmed down and picked up a needless yellow card on the stroke of half-time for barging Alves over.

Fabregas, returning to his boyhood club for the first time, then inexplicably tried to back-heel the ball to Wilshere on the edge the Arsenal penalty area, but gave it straight to Iniesta.

Messi was away and brilliantly chipped Almunia before lashing the ball into the empty net.

Arsenal looked to be facing an uphill battle for the second half, but were presented with a gift on 53 minutes.

Nasri got away down the left and won a corner which he swung into the six-yard box where Busquets headed past his own goalkeeper.

The tie then took another twist when Van Persie latched onto a through-ball, but was ruled offside, which looked marginal.

The Holland forward lashed the ball wide and was shown a second yellow card, swiftly followed by a red.

Van Persie and the Arsenal players could not believe it, as the striker claimed he could not hear the whistle.

Barcelona started the onslaught almost immediately, with first Villa and then Messi denied by a couple of brave blocks from Almunia.

The Catalans finally regained the advantage on 69 minutes when Xavi slotted home after being played in following a quick exchange between Iniesta and Villa.

Before Arsenal could regroup, Barcelona were awarded a penalty when Koscielny tripped Pedro and Messi slotted it into the bottom corner to put Barcelona within touching distance of the last eight.

Wenger sent on Andrey Arshavin and then Nicklas Bendtner, replacing Fabregas, but it was more in hope than expectation.

Almunia denied Barcelona another goal with good blocks from Messi and substitute Ibrahim Afellay.

Bendtner was agonisingly close to connecting with Wilshere's cross into the six-yard box, but it was not to be for the Gunners.
