Where's Your Money For The Irish Grand National

  • Edit

The Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse has been a minefield for punters and this year's renewal on Bank Holiday Monday (4.55) looks no exception.

Winning favourites are rare and you have to back to Omerta in 1991 to find the last outright market leader to oblige, and even Glebe Lad, the winner in 1999, was one of five co-favourites! And it's not getting any easier with five of the last seven winners priced at 20/1 or bigger (three at 33/1). To make matters worse, the ante post favourite Beautiful Sound is not a guaranteed runner even at this late stage and as second reserve will need a couple of the 28 declared runners to come out overnight. If he does get a run, he would have a great chance off his low weight and on ground he likes, but that's a big 'if'.

In his absence, the poisoned chalice of favouritism is likely to be passed to Prince Erik, who has always had plenty of ability - sixth in the Irish Derby and second in last season's Pertemps Final - but has not always looked a natural over fences, although he jumped well enough when winning a novice chase at Naas last time out. This is much tougher, though, and with his stamina for this 3m5f trip unproven, I'm inclined to look elsewhere for the winner.

British stables have won three of the last seven runnings and this year they account for four of the runners. The pick of them looks to be Nicky Henderson's Quantitativeeasing, who is third favourite in most lists. His latest effort when second in the the Centenary Novices' Chase at the Cheltenham Festival came over 2m4f but his half-sister Asian Maze stayed really well and I don't it will be lack of stamina that beats him. With Tony McCoy to do the steering, he's not without a chance.

Willie Mullins has never won this race, which is somewhat surprising given he's won just about everything else in Ireland. This year he relies on three with Ruby Walsh opting to ride long-term absentee and 20/1 shot Shakervilz. Given he could have ridden the shorter-priced Some Target, who looked like he would benefit from stronger handling when a never-nearer fifth in the four miler at Cheltenham and is still unexposed over this sort of distance, that might be a tip in itself. Shakervilz has been off the track for 367 days but if anyone can get one ready after a break it's Mullins.

Another interesting runner is WHATUTHINK, who was a great third 12 months, just half a length behind this year's Grand National runner-up Oscar Time  This season hasn't gone to plan as he had to take three months off after a crashing fall in the Becher Chase in November but, as a result, he lines up here a fresh horse and his latest outing when third in a Grade 2 at Navan will have put him spot on. At 14/1 with bet365, who are offering five places instead of the usual four, he looks a rock solid each-way bet.

Given the races history, it would be foolish to discount anything at a bigger price and one who could outrun his odds is the novice HUGHIES GREY. His lack of experience over fences (just seven chase starts) would be a worry in most Nationals but not this one - none of the last 10 winners had raced more than 13 times over fences, with novices accounting for 12 wins since 1974. And he's already won one National when taking the Ulster version at Downpatrick early last month, and has since followed up in a Grade 2 at Navan.

Both of those races were on soft ground and anything faster than good would be an obvious concern for him. However, it's the Irish National and, with safe ground a requisite, I would be amazed if they haven't done a good job of the watering. His regular jockey Michael Darcy is suspended but big-race specialist Robbie Power (second last year on Oscar Time) is an excellent substitute. As for his price, I see Corals are going a standout 25/1 but I'd rather take bet365's 20/1 in the knowledge I'm getting an extra place.

Recommended Bets:

Whatuthink 1pt each-way @ 14/1 bet365 (1/4 odds, 1.2.3.4.5)
Hughies Grey 1pt each-way @ 20/1 bet365 (1/4 odds,1.2.3.4.5)

GAMBLING SYSTEMS REVIEWS

Hi Guys,

Just an update on Martins Better Betting this new system is now in profit of £4339 after just 19 days of the trial.  This has to be a record for us here at GSR.  We have never had a system make that sort of profit in such a short time.

Martins Better Betting, for those of you who have not already looked is a horse laying system that works on a loss recovery basis.  The idea is to generate a steady flow of profits built up over time, well we have made HUGE profit over a short time.  Long may this run continue.

Martins Better Betting aims to make 1 point per betting run and a rule of three bet stop strategy using odds of no higher than 3.1 on Betfair as recommended by Martin.

So if your first bet loses then you aim to recover your loss plus the 1 point profit.  A starting bank of 100 points is recommended so we have started our trial with a bank of £10,000 and set our stakes to £100 per point.

GAMBLING SYSTEMS REVIEWS

Hey guys lets start this weeks round up with the Golden Key Method 2 A great Ebook and betting guide.

This manual has been produced by the authors of one of our best sellers ALL BY THE BOOK and that in itself is a recommendation because purchasers of All By The Book  have bought Golden Key Method 2   solely on the reputation of the authors. The method is based on Bookmaker v Betfair which creates opportunities which can be exploited for profit. To do this you need an online facility where you can access the required website at around an hour and a half before the first advertised race and a betfair account .  Reasons why and what you do are very carefully explained in detail in the 10 page manual. Now obviously we cannot breach copyright  but what we can say is that the object is to create a number of trades in the pre race window. Some will win and some will lose but research shows that with winning trades we won double the amount that we lost in losing trades and we had more wins than losses which makes pretty good reading doesn’t it? We made a profit of £4998 or 50 points.  The cost for this E-Book is only £87

Martins Better Betting has continued their fantastic form, we are in profit by a MASSIVE £3472.  This service is turning out to be a real gem, let's hope the profits keep rolling in

Another service that is doing really well is, Backing Star Selection Service.  As you may have guessed this is a Horse Backing System, Backing Star email out selections on a daily basis plus you can login to the members area if you prefere.

Backing Star Selection Service also have a number of different staking plans designed to suit the personalities and betting styles of different punters, all of which are explained in detail.  Since the start of our trial we are currently in profit of £3218 using staking plan 1.  This is a system well worth a look at, the results do not lie.

As for our laying systems, well the least said the better! IT’S-LAY-TIME, LAY BETTOR, and SAFE LAY BETS are so far behind it will take a minor miracle to get back into profit, but fingers crossed.

The only Horse Laying Service I am monitoring that is making a profit is ADY’S LAY OF THE DAY this service continues to deliver quality lays, not quantity as many of the other services provide.

Auto Bet System X is also worth a look.  This horse betting system is not a straightforward tipping service. It is more of a teaching method or betting strategy.  The Auto Bet System X betting strategy teaches you how to identify potential race winners and putting the percentages in your favour increasing your chances of winning.  The betting strategies include simple staking methods to back horses to win or place, Dutching methods, Multiples, Accumulators and more. With Video Tutorials, PDFs and walkthroughs this is a very well put together package.

I should mention that there are two subscriptions available:  The first is The full Auto Bet System X Report For £37

The Next Subscription,  The Full Auto Bet System X Report + Unlimited access to the Machine For £67.

The benefit of the second subscription is that the "Machine" or the Auto Bet System X software will do all the race card analysis for you, literally saving you hours of research.  So all you have to do is decide what type of bets you are going to place for the day.

Liverpool v Man City - Premier League Betting

Manchester City's UEFA Champions League credentials face a stern test as they visit Liverpool

Chelsea's win over Wigan on Saturday took them back above City into third while fifth-placed Tottenham are back within three points of City following their victory against Stoke.

The Blues are in high spirits after thrashing Sunderland 5-0 last week but Roberto Mancini's men may have one eye on this weekend's FA Cup semi-final with derby rivals United at Wembley.

Given Liverpool's home form - they are unbeaten in eight at Anfield - City can ill afford not to be at the top of their game for the short trip to Merseyside.

Record signing Andy Carroll is still searching for his first Liverpool goal and the hosts will be eager to avenge their 3-0 defeat at Eastlands back in August.

Kenny Dalglish's men will also be keen to keep their hopes of European qualification alive.

Seventh-placed Everton are now one point behind their Merseyside rivals but a Liverpool victory would put them back within five points of Tottenham.

Although City's last two trips to Anfield have been draws, they have not won their since Nicolas Anelka's last-gasp strike denied Liverpool a place in the 2003/04 Champions League, and the Blues' last away win was at Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Dalglish has a shortage of options in defence after both Daniel Agger (knee) and Glen Johnson (hamstring) suffered injuries in last week's 2-1 defeat at West Brom, joining Martin Kelly on the sidelines.

Sotirios Kyrgiakos is set to come into the centre of defence for Agger while Danny Wilson could be denied his second Premier League start at full-back as Fabio Aurelio is back in training after a hamstring injury.

Captain Steven Gerrard has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing groin surgery last week so Jay Spearing is likely to continue in central midfield, although Jonjo Shelvey is working his way back into contention after appearing for the reserves last week following knee surgery.

Pablo Zabaleta returns to the City squad after compassionate leave and could replace youngster Dedryck Boyata at right-back.

Gareth Barry, James Milner and Edin Dzeko are all pushing for a recall after being rested for the 5-0 destruction of Sunderland.

City are set to take a more defensive approach at Anfield so Mario Balotelli could make way, although Adam Johnson will hope to keep his place on the wing after an impressive return to the starting line-up last week.

Possible starting XIs:

Liverpool: Reina, Carragher, Skrtel, Kyrgiakos, Aurelio, Meireles, Lucas, Spearing, Kuyt, Suarez, Carroll.

Man City: Hart, Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Kolarov, Barry, De Jong, Y. Toure, A. Johnson, Silva, Tevez.

Odds: Liverpool @ 2.62 & Man City @ 3.05. The Draw looks a good bet @ 3.4
